For generations, dance in one form or another has always played a key role in life at Spring Village. Whether it is from the days of Maypole at the Nelson lawn to Burru, where minstrels danced through the streets at Christmas time, dance has always been a part of us.
Our village has always maintained a festive culture and therefore the events are usually a reflection of our own local culture. For example, Burru songs were composed of lyrics based on the local gossip during that year. The singers would stop at each bar singing these songs accompanied by drumming and dancing as they lead a procession from one end of the village to the other. Halfway through, many of them would be be overcome with their share of J. Wray and Nephew white rum.
Today Spring Village celebrates a new generation of dancers. Dancers like Alvin Grant (A.K.A. MJ Flavers) is pushing the boundaries and often performs routines influenced by Michael Jackson and others.
Besides being a marching band The Eaglestar contingent has a group of dancers which are tightly coreographed to match the music of the band. They perform during special events as well as funerals and have also performed at various events around the island.
